The Col de Joux Plan has played its part in many tours, including the infamous solo breakaway by Floyd Landis in 2006 and was also where Lance Armstrong famously hit the wall in 2000 and almost lost the tour. The record for the ascent to Avoriaz still belongs to Benard Hinaults who covered the 14 km climb in an amazing 33 minutes.
